Making a 301 Redirect

September 8th, 2009

When you need to upgrade a Website or make changes in the structure of it, you may want to do a 301 redirect instead of renaming all your pages and links. The main reason for using a 301 redirect is because you may lose all your SEO up to that point.

In addition, your Web pages will most likely suffer from losing the page rank that they had recently enjoyed. After all, they no longer will be at the same Web address and the search engines will think it is a new page – or Web site. The original page will also have ceased to exist.

By using a 301 redirect page, you can preserve the page rank of the original. This only makes good sense to preserve the level of search engine optimization that you had worked so hard for. It will let you keep the previous rank and not have to wait until it is able to be built up again. Search engines do not penalize you for a 301 redirect.

A 301 redirect enables you to redirect people from an old domain to a new one and still be able to make the corrections you need to make. You can use it to correct changes from a www. to a non-www. Web site, too, or use it to change an extension. You may also want to use it while you make those changes, too, and need to keep people out of those pages that just are not ready for viewing yet.

Next time you make changes to your Web site, be sure to use a 301 as part of your SEO strategies to retain top search ranking. Baytech Web Design can help you with your SEO needs to ensure you have the page rank you need for better profits and corporate branding. Catching Up to the Search Engines

September 6th, 2009

Getting seen in the new way of doing things with Google or Yahoo gives you greater possibilities than you had before. Not only that, but getting your Website compatible with the new microformats and RDF formats will let you get ahead of your competition.

In order to have the best SEO for the new functions, you want to add all the things that the new format will allow – such as pics, etc. Once completed, you can be sure that a search result will be seen like a large ad in the Yellow Pages – they get noticed first because they catch people’s attention.

You can use geo-targeting in the new search engine algorithms, which will enable you to be more visible when your location is entered into the search formula. By targeting more generalized keywords, your company’s ad will be seen by anyone entering them along with your location.

For national visibility, you want to use keywords with your location. If you have more than one location, enter them all for best SEO results.

Baytech Web Design can help you with the new features of the search engines to increase your visibility. We offer search engine optimization to meet the new algorithms and can keep you up to date when changes are made. Talk to us today about helping your company stay visible.

Keep Refining Your Keywords for Better Traffic

September 3rd, 2009

Using organic SEO and standard SEO techniques to market your Web page and products requires a constant refining of your search terms. The more you study it and think about it, the better your SERP results and page rank can become.

For one thing, you want to keep your search terms simple, and possibly even expand on them. This is not saying do not use long tail key phrases – just don’t overlook the easy ones. It is quite possible that by doing so, it may be easier to get top search ranking for a simpler term or keyword phrase than for one that is more commonly used – if there is a lot of competition. Use synonyms to define your products to increase traffic. Remember that not everyone thinks the same way.

By regularly looking into how your customers find you – or your competitors – you may find more and better ways to get more traffic and a higher ROI.

Adding your business to some Websites that specialize on local service providers is another way to drive more traffic. See what search terms similar providers are currently using on that Web site, and it may help you to be found faster.

Good SEO strategies do not always need to be profound – sometimes you just got to find ways that the other guy is not yet using. Baytech Web Design can help you with your SEO and marketing campaigns. We have a team of proven experts and we are ready to help you succeed. Contact us today for more information.

Local Business Can Take Advantage with Microformats

September 3rd, 2009

Search engines are always changing their algorithms. This means that your placement in the SERPS is likewise changing and you will need to make adjustments – once you understand the new rules for search engine optimization.

Staying ahead of the game is getting tougher – especially because the search engines are developing different techniques as part of their algorithms. Yahoo’s new toy – SearchMonkey, as is Google, is using microformats and RDF in order to get a wider range of information. This allows a more organic SEO that enables better SERP results.

The advantage that businesses have is being able to provide more information on the search results than what would be possible with standard search results. Getting top search ranking may not be as important when you can provide readers with top placement – and offers of a photo, reviews, directions, or more.

Providing this kind of information in the search results will clearly help you beat the competition. Microformats are searchable and aid in providing a better format for your information in the SERP’s – and information that is more valuable to you – because it can bring more traffic your way.

More about Using SEO Basics

September 1st, 2009

If you want to make sure that the search engines will make the most of your Webpages, be sure that they can clearly identify most of what you have there. Some of the newer and fancier programs cannot be read by simpler search engine algorithms. If that happens, your Website may end up being largely invisible to them.

When you remember that the search engines are not trying to deliver the newest and latest technologies – but Web pages that meet the searcher’s criteria – then you can see why fancy may not help you at all. The SERP will display the best pages that match the desired keywords.

By seeking to keep your Web pages technically simple – for the most part, you can be sure that most of the search engines will be able to find it and categorize it correctly. This includes using best SEO techniques. Baytech Web Design can show you how to use the fancier coding and still keep it search engine friendly.

You can get top search ranking for some of your keywords by making sure that your Meta tags and title tags are correct – which may be all they have to go by if they cannot read your Webpages. Then, be sure to use short links where possible, and avoid session ids.

Be sure to use anchor text with appropriate keywords to make your graphics add to the search engine’s understanding of what your Web page is about. Also, watch what you link to and how you do it. Be careful to avoid linking to spam pages. Let your links help the viewer understand what your Webpages are about and then the search engines will be able to tell, too.

Baytech Web Design can help you ensure that your Webpages are using best SEO tips for top search ranking. We also provide excellent design features to give your Website both a great look and the best technology. Talk to us today and let us build your business with you.

Even More Tips for Making Your Website More Visible

September 1st, 2009

Effectiveness online generally means that the search engines need to be able to find your Website and index it. The easier it can do this, and the better understanding it has about it, the better page rank and SERP results you can have.

Another way to improve your page rank and make sure the search engines do not have problems in indexing your Website is to provide a sitemap for them. Since search engines can often leave out many of your pages, a good sitemap can help them – and even direct them to be more thorough. Also, you can tell it to leave certain pages alone, too, and not index them by using the “No follow” command.

Good SEO strategies require the use of a sitemap. Without it, various pages of your Web site may never be indexed. This is especially true with larger Websites. Through a sitemap, however, you can actually direct the search engines to the pages you want indexed – when you want – or hide them when done with a campaign.

A sitemap is an XML document, not HTML. It is made purely for the search engines. You put in the priority of the Webpage as well as how often you want it indexed – daily, weekly, or monthly. This will ensure your Web pages are discovered when needed and it will also allow you to get top search ranking faster.

When you use a sitemap, be sure to only link to it from the homepage. Use a title tag to clearly identify it, too, or the search engine may consider it a link farm.

Baytech Web Design can help you ensure that you use only the best search engine optimization techniques and strategies. We have helped many large and small companies and are proven SEO strategies experts. Talk to us today about giving your Website maximum visibility.

Best Advantages That SEO Will Give You over Traditional Advertising (Part II)

August 16th, 2009

Now, let’s take a look at why a SEO campaign can be of real benefit to your advertising and Website promotion. The key idea behind being able to reap such benefits is that SEO methodology uses reverse psychology. With the more common types of advertising that tend to push people into making a decision to buy, using SEO strategies actually allows you to put your ads in front of people who want the very thing you are offering.

Search engine optimization lets you work with people who are already looking for your information or product. You do not need to “coerce” them. A simple attractive offer will help them make a decision. Instead of the “push” mentality, you are now leading them to a decision that they are already working on!

Here is a brief review of things we have looked at concerning how search engine optimization can benefit you:

  • It provides you with an ongoing benefit
  • It is easily adaptable to a changing Internet
  • It is often less expensive than most marketing methods
  • It puts your Webpages in front of real prospects
  • It lets you easily lead people to your products or services.

These various SEO tips should not be construed as saying that they are all that we at Baytech Web Design recommend. Other marketing methods should also be used for best results. It should not be an either / or situation. Instead, this low cost method of getting additional traffic should not be overlooked – especially by the small business owner who does not have a large marketing budget.

Baytech Web Design provides SEO and organic SEO methods to enable your company to gain a much higher degree of visibility. We also help you develop link popularity, back link, and internal linking for best results.

Best Reasons to Use SEO to Promote Your Website

August 14th, 2009

Using SEO methods as a means to promote your Website can give you some real advantages. Many Webmasters use SEO tactics of all sorts as a proven means to get their Website seen. Search engine optimization certainly can be a good way to get the targeted traffic you want to your Website – and then to the sales you want.

One reason that SEO strategies work is because the search engines use SEO as part of the page rank determination process. This enables them to categorize your Website and rank it, which it then uses to calculate the position where it will display it on its search engine results pages (SERP).

Using keywords, along with the metatags and a title tag, tells the search engines exactly what your page is about. This helps narrow your traffic down to the people that are looking for exactly what you are offering. With the right keywords, the search engines will display your webpage on the first or second pages in their display – bringing much more traffic to your Website.

One very powerful advantage of using SEO to promote your Website is the free traffic you will get as a result. When you compare it to the cost of programs like Adwords, it just makes more sense to use SEO. Adwords will bring traffic to your Website quickly, but it may end up costing you more than it is worth – at least until you figure out how to use it to your advantage. Standard SEO tactics, however, can keep on bringing traffic and will do it without further cost to you.

Baytech Web Design has helped many companies of all sizes to use SEO tactics to their advantage. Besides driving more traffic their way, search engine optimization enabled them to become more focused, more visible, and more profitable. Talk to Baytech Web Design today and see how we can help you.

Best Advantages That SEO Will Give You over Traditional Advertising (Part I)

August 14th, 2009

Typical methods used in marketing are often costly, tiring, and troublesome to develop and use. Even though they may be effective, many business owners do not have the time, patience or the resources to utilize them adequately for the desired results.

Search engine optimization may be just the tool needed to make up for this lack and still drive traffic to your Website. SEO, while it is not a complete answer, will provide you with several clear advantages over the more traditional methods used in marketing.

Problems with Push-type Marketing

It is not at all uncommon for a business Website to fail to get a decent page rank. This means it will remain unseen by most people – even by those who are looking for what it is selling. Search engine results (SERP) will not bring people to their Website because the listing will be mostly out of sight.

This means that if it is to be seen, the company will have to resort to more direct marketing methods. They will have to use things like direct mail, newspaper or magazine ads, and possibly TV or radio ads. Each of these, however, uses a more “pushy” type of approach – and costly.

Another aspect of each of these marketing tools is that they are intrusive – they get in people’s faces. They try to force people to hear your message. Unfortunately, people are becoming hardened to such tactics.

Baytech Web Design is a proven Web design company that handles all sorts of design and marketing details. We have enabled companies of all sizes to move away from being unseen – to becoming a major online force. Achieve High SEO Rankings

August 12th, 2009

Baytech Web Design knows that users who are in quest of a particular service or product are only going to look through the first few pages of search engine results. So, if you want to be found, you know where your business needs to be listed. High rankings entail crucial attention to specific areas on your business website.

Successful rankings occur only when a web site is well-managed. The primary areas of focus include the following:

  • Integrate keywords and phrases into your web site’s content. These notable phrases and words are what a user naturally thinks of when doing a search.
  • Ensure that your site complies with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) guidelines.
  • Use Meta tags. They provide information in the “header” space of a web page. This data is used to provide beneficial information about a web page and is not seen by the browser, but rather by an account manager maintaining the web site.
  • Submit your web site for inclusion on major search engines.

Bringing an expert on board to manage search engine optimization strategies for your business will produce outstanding results. Baytech Web Design will monitor your SEO campaign and assist your business in achieving high rankings.
