Achieve High SEO Rankings

August 12th, 2009

Baytech Web Design knows that users who are in quest of a particular service or product are only going to look through the first few pages of search engine results. So, if you want to be found, you know where your business needs to be listed. High rankings entail crucial attention to specific areas on your business website.

Successful rankings occur only when a web site is well-managed. The primary areas of focus include the following:

  • Integrate keywords and phrases into your web site’s content. These notable phrases and words are what a user naturally thinks of when doing a search.
  • Ensure that your site complies with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) guidelines.
  • Use Meta tags. They provide information in the “header” space of a web page. This data is used to provide beneficial information about a web page and is not seen by the browser, but rather by an account manager maintaining the web site.
  • Submit your web site for inclusion on major search engines.

Bringing an expert on board to manage search engine optimization strategies for your business will produce outstanding results. Baytech Web Design will monitor your SEO campaign and assist your business in achieving high rankings.

SEO Website Design – Starting with the Basics

August 1st, 2009

When laying out your Website for maximum search engine optimization, it is essential that you start with the foundation and build from there. This means that if there is an existing Website, that all elements of each page will need to be evaluated to ensure that right foundation. Otherwise, adding onto an incorrect structure will help you only in a limited way.

Good SEO strategies must start with the basics if your site is to become friendlier to the search engines. Since not all search engines use the same algorithms, you want to largely use a framework that will be W3 compliant, such as HTML, XML, CSS, and DOM. For top search ranking in each of the search engines, following this basic principle will help ensure that they will be able to recognize your SEO work.

A lot of businesses and individuals seek to incorporate the fancy aspects of Web design – such as flash. In doing so, they often sacrifice good SEO strategies for elegance sake, and this can lead to lower page rank because some (if not most) search engines cannot read the more recent coding styles. Baytech Web Design can show you how to be fancy in your Web design and still come out ahead with the search engines.

By sticking to the more basic elements, you ensure greater visibility to the search engines – and better SERP results. You want to use HTML for your important content, your structure, and for your navigation. Provide anchor text that describes the object well, and use shortened links to ensure ease of indexing. Links that are too long may be defeating your purpose with some search engines. Aim for simplicity and you will be more attractive to the search engines.

Baytech Web Design is a company that can help you with proven SEO strategies. We have enabled companies of all sizes to be search engine friendly and to improve their bottom line. Contact us today and let us show you what we can do.

Content for SEO – General Best Practices, Part II

July 24th, 2009

Let’s us talk about targeted keywords. They help the engine to determine what the pages are about. When selecting your keywords, choose them based on search volume. The right keywords should help increase conversion.

When incorporating your keywords into your content, take care in measuring the density of the primary keyword. It should make up two to three percent of the page. That means, for every 400 words, it can be used up to twelve times. Also, use the exact keyword phrase for the primary keyword. For example, “Stephanie’s Interior Design” is not the same as “Interior Design by Stephanie.”

The Brief on Content Strategy

July 17th, 2009

The idea of content strategy has been recycled over and over again in this blog. It is a lot more than just creating a bank of text in hopes of filling empty voids on websites. The principles of content strategy is to develop useful and meaningful value on a website. Consequently, addressing the lack thereof will significantly impact a user’s experience.

Content plays a heavy role in determining plans for the creation, publication and control of a website. A good copywriter will take in account of how all the content will be incorporated, written, updated, and revised. To add, there must be a good reason to publish content.

A large number of people fail to think about content in the early stages of website development. Come time for publishing, there is more work to be done figuring out how inserting new content could bring more well-rounded value. Inevitably, it will lead to stale and dissociative discussions and deem your website un-engaging.

Stay tuned to learn more about content strategy.

Bounce the Bounce Rate

July 17th, 2009

The bounce rate refers to the percentage of visitors leaving your site without browsing through other pages. An e-commerce site would be an exception as a high bounce rate would be understandable. It would still be considered a bounce if a user stays an hour on a page they landed on and did not visit another page.

The more engaging your website, and the more favorable attention your website draws, the lower the bounce rate. Here are a few factors to consider when understanding your bounce rate:

  1. Are you only just pitching a sale, or do you have valuable content to provide your viewers?
  2. How long does it take to load your page?
  3. Do you have any broken links or images on the page?
  4. How assessable is the website? Does navigating require many clicks or just one
  5. Is the navigation placed well and is it straightforward to use?
  6. Is there an excess of pop-ups on your site?
  7. How are the aesthetics of the page? Are the colors pleasing? Is it easy to read?
  8. Have your pages been spell-checked?
  9. Have you filtered for unrelated keywords that will drive untargeted traffic?
  10. Are the links on your site relevant?

Information Architecture

July 16th, 2009

Information architecture is how one structures information when designing a large website. It entails the organization of a website including aspects such as functionality, content, usability, information, and navigation.

As a business owner, you must first have a clear idea of your site’s goals, your audience, and what your site should contain. After deciding on the content and categories, define the major sections and smaller sections of the website. These sections will then become the basis for your site structure.

Suppose you own a clothing store which can potentially be divided into men and women’s categories and then grouped again according to age, occasion, brand, and price. The idea is to structure your site as you would construct a pyramid. The overall theme, as an online clothing store, is the apex, and all your inventory funnels by category to the base. Link your pages from theme to broad to narrow to specific. Site linkage should be done from top to bottom with very little linking done across the width of the pyramid.

As you determine the site structure and functionality will navigation come logically. So before slapping your ideas together in creating your businesses’ website, think about the information architecture on a large scale.
