More Tips about Being Seen by Google Maps

September 30th, 2009

When you have a physical brick and mortar business that you want people to know about, Google Maps is a great way for them to find you. In addition to the tips that have already been given, here are a few more that will help with your search engine optimization.

Although you may have different stores, it is not necessary to need more than one Website. Google Maps is able to locate your store if you simply have separate Webpages. A very important thing to remember, though, is that you may need an address on your Webpage to help Google to show exactly where you are. It does seem to prefer an actual address.

Google Maps will often provide a general location without pinpointing precisely where your business is. It will often put a general marker there to indicate about where you are located. It is important to know, though, that if someone is actually trying to find your location, that having good directions will certainly help if it is not displayed, or if they go directly to your Website.

If you do not have a physical address in another location, you may want to consider getting one for SEO purposes. A post office box will most likely do the trick and put you on the map.

Another feature about Google Maps that will help you stand out is third party confirmations about your credibility. Google Maps can show that you are recommended by the Better Business Bureau, for instance. It is things like this that will make your business stand out.

Ranking with Google Maps

September 28th, 2009

Google Maps operates largely the way that Google works, but there are some differences. The differences relate to what people find of value when they are in a particular location. It was pointed out yesterday that reviews of a business or service do play a part in it, as well as your geographic location.

You can help Google Maps to find you by using good SEO tips. It will help if you add the names of several geographic locations near you throughout your Webpages. Don’t forget to add the name of the city itself when you refer to the more specific local areas. If you are in a major metro area, add in the names of each of the cities that are closest, and Google Maps will bring up your business name even more often.

Be sure to use keywords that refer to your various categories, too. If you are a car repair shop, for instance, you want to use terms such as car repair, auto repair, car repair service, vehicle repair, etc. Then, don’t forget to add the various types of repair that people may need, such as car body repair, brake repair, car transmission repair, car exhaust repair, import car repair, etc. Now, add the locations to the list. Use these keywords on several pages.

If you have more than one location, you want to add separate pages for each location for search engine optimization purposes. Add your address to that page. Throw in some photos or videos with ALT tags that use your keywords.

Choosing the Right Keywords for SEO

September 27th, 2009

Behind every successful search engine marketing (SEM) campaign, you can be sure that there was a considerable amount of keyword research first. This is essential because the whole campaign must be based on which keywords you use.

Targeting the wrong keywords will make your campaigns ineffective and probably a lot more costly than you want if you are using PPC. This means that you must not only have an ongoing research, but you must also be testing constantly, too.

Good search engine optimization will enable the right people to find you who are most interested in what you are promoting or selling. This gives you the best rate of click throughs and then sales or sign-ups.

Finding the right negative keywords will help reduce your traffic of many of the tire-kickers and time killers who will never buy anything. Remember that a lot of traffic does not ensure that it is the best traffic for sales purposes. Your click through rate can be vastly improved by using a lot of negative keywords in PPC campaigns.

Further keyword research may also help you find commonly misspelled words that may also help deliver good traffic right to your Website’s door. Even better, though, is when keyword research enables your Webpage to get top search ranking.

Baytech Web Design can do the keyword research you need to help you get started on your SEO or PPC campaigns. Talk to us today and let’s get started – time is money.

Bringing SEO into the Meeting

September 26th, 2009

Making sure that SEO strategies are brought into the project from the beginning, and kept in place will probably meet with some opposition. There will be those that just do not understand the importance of SEO or why it can’t be just tacked on when all other planning is done.

This is especially true when Web designers are in charge. They like to bring in the newest and the latest – not understanding that it may not be the best for SEO purposes. This is especially true when using CSS to replace HTML pages or hi-tech design programs like flash – which the search engines cannot read. While it may look great, it is hurting your search engine optimization efforts.

Computer programmers often look at things like ensuring that everything is working right – which they may appear to be, but it does not mean that the best SEO tips are being followed which will lead to top search ranking. Others may just want to do things the easy way and not have to take the time to do it for best SEO.

The one who is responsible for ensuring SEO best practices are being followed should expect some opposition. Unfortunately, the opposition may come from unexpected sources – even from leadership. Since they may not understand, patience will be required with a general willingness to quietly instruct those who don’t get it.

Most likely, this instruction – and holding to your guns – will have to be repeated occasionally until the project is completed. SEO will have to be constantly checked. Project updates will have to be looked at, too, to ensure that search engine optimization is where it needs to be so that top page rank is attained.

Baytech Web Design is ready to help you ensure that best SEO strategies are followed throughout your project (s). Let us help you achieve the top search ranking you need for better success. Talk to us today and start building for a better tomorrow.

Making Projects Easier for SEO

September 22nd, 2009

All too often SEO gets relegated to an add-on feature at some point in the project-creation / completion process. This wastes many hours and can really make things difficult when trying to incorporate best practice SEO strategies.

The ideal way to ensure that a Web project is optimized properly is to bring in the SEO professional from the start and lay out the groundwork of your project with that in mind. This will simplify the process and not make it necessary to go overboard on man-hours.

Because the early planning stage is a good time to prevent serious problems before they start, project requirements can be given that ensure compliance with SEO strategies. The more details that are in the plan, the safer the project will be from making unnecessary changes, purchases, details, and more later on. This can range in anything from name changes to software purchases.

This should include a check off procedure, so that each aspect of the project can be safely checked by the search engine optimization staffer. This prevents the need for major revisions and changes later in the project – when it would be more time consuming to correct.

Checks need to occur at every stage of the project. It is also necessary that the future needs of the project be laid out and understood by the one doing the SEO. This ensures that future project growth does not affect the SEO that was set up at the start. All aspects of the project will need to be examined carefully for SEO purposes to ensure that they are still working as planned.

Baytech Web Design can help you to ensure that your next major project is SEO compliant and follows sound SEO strategies. We have a professional team that has helped many others succeed. Contact us today for a consultation.

Making a 301 Redirect

September 8th, 2009

When you need to upgrade a Website or make changes in the structure of it, you may want to do a 301 redirect instead of renaming all your pages and links. The main reason for using a 301 redirect is because you may lose all your SEO up to that point.

In addition, your Web pages will most likely suffer from losing the page rank that they had recently enjoyed. After all, they no longer will be at the same Web address and the search engines will think it is a new page – or Web site. The original page will also have ceased to exist.

By using a 301 redirect page, you can preserve the page rank of the original. This only makes good sense to preserve the level of search engine optimization that you had worked so hard for. It will let you keep the previous rank and not have to wait until it is able to be built up again. Search engines do not penalize you for a 301 redirect.

A 301 redirect enables you to redirect people from an old domain to a new one and still be able to make the corrections you need to make. You can use it to correct changes from a www. to a non-www. Web site, too, or use it to change an extension. You may also want to use it while you make those changes, too, and need to keep people out of those pages that just are not ready for viewing yet.

Next time you make changes to your Web site, be sure to use a 301 as part of your SEO strategies to retain top search ranking. Baytech Web Design can help you with your SEO needs to ensure you have the page rank you need for better profits and corporate branding. Catching Up to the Search Engines

September 6th, 2009

Getting seen in the new way of doing things with Google or Yahoo gives you greater possibilities than you had before. Not only that, but getting your Website compatible with the new microformats and RDF formats will let you get ahead of your competition.

In order to have the best SEO for the new functions, you want to add all the things that the new format will allow – such as pics, etc. Once completed, you can be sure that a search result will be seen like a large ad in the Yellow Pages – they get noticed first because they catch people’s attention.

You can use geo-targeting in the new search engine algorithms, which will enable you to be more visible when your location is entered into the search formula. By targeting more generalized keywords, your company’s ad will be seen by anyone entering them along with your location.

For national visibility, you want to use keywords with your location. If you have more than one location, enter them all for best SEO results.

Baytech Web Design can help you with the new features of the search engines to increase your visibility. We offer search engine optimization to meet the new algorithms and can keep you up to date when changes are made. Talk to us today about helping your company stay visible.

Local Business Can Take Advantage with Microformats

September 3rd, 2009

Search engines are always changing their algorithms. This means that your placement in the SERPS is likewise changing and you will need to make adjustments – once you understand the new rules for search engine optimization.

Staying ahead of the game is getting tougher – especially because the search engines are developing different techniques as part of their algorithms. Yahoo’s new toy – SearchMonkey, as is Google, is using microformats and RDF in order to get a wider range of information. This allows a more organic SEO that enables better SERP results.

The advantage that businesses have is being able to provide more information on the search results than what would be possible with standard search results. Getting top search ranking may not be as important when you can provide readers with top placement – and offers of a photo, reviews, directions, or more.

Providing this kind of information in the search results will clearly help you beat the competition. Microformats are searchable and aid in providing a better format for your information in the SERP’s – and information that is more valuable to you – because it can bring more traffic your way.
